Football Takes Down Hudson Valley on Homecoming

The Nassau Community College football team defeated #4 ranked Hudson Valley Community College 21-7 on Saturday afternoon, at Nassau's Homecoming and Alumni Day.

How It Happened:

Hudson Valley threatened to score first at the end of the first quarter, getting to 1st and goal, before a holding penalty on the offense and consecutive sacks by Nassau's Kanayo Maijeh and Benjamin Mann stopped the Vikings drive. Nassau scored first with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. Defensive pressure by Bejamin Mann led to a quarterback fumble which was recovered by Kanayo Maijeh and returned for 34 yards to the one yard line. On the next play, a quarterback rush by Prince Perry put the Lions on the board, and kicker Igor Rzasa completed the extra-point attempt. Hudson Valley responded with a touchdown on their next drive to tie the game 7-7 at halftime.

In the second quarter, Prince Perry scored on a 21 yard run, with another extra-point attempt made by Igor Rzasa to take the lead 14-7. Linebacker Leonardo Lopez later made a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Rzasa converted his third extra-point of the day to increase the lead to 21-7, which would hold for the final score.

Notable Performances:

  • Caleib Corbett rushed for 39 yards, and Eriq Harris rushed for 35.
  • Quarterback Prince Perry rushed for 24 yards, with two touchdowns, including a 21-yard touchdown run.
  • Linebacker Leonardo Lopez had five total tackles, two sacks, and a 55-yard interception returned for a touchdown.
