The Nassau Community College women's volleyball team defeated Monroe University - Bronx, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon to win the NJCAA Region XV championship, earning a bid to compete in the NJCAA National Championship next week in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.Â
Earlier in the day, top-seeded NCC swept host Dutchess Community College in the semifinal round. Sophomore setter Elizabeth Wagner was credited with 23 assists and five aces in the final and was named MVP of the tournament.Â
How it happened
- Nassau surged to 25-14 and 25-13 victories in sets one and two, respectively, before closing the match with a 25-21 win in the third.
- Sophomore Sarah Kollarik hit .204 and put down a game-high 14 kills.
- Freshman Hannah Clarke had three blocks, hit .533, and was credited with 8 kills.
- Freshman Alanice Rios led NCC with 12 digs.
- Kollarik, Wagner, and freshman libero Allison Salinas graced the Region XV DIII Women's Volleyball All-Tournament Team.
