The Nassau Community College baseball team won both games of a Region XV doubleheader, 13-3 and 11-0, against Borough of Manhattan Community College on Saturday, May 4, to extend its winning streak to eight games.
The victories ensure the Lions qualify for the NJCAA Region XV Championship as the third seed. NCC completes a four-game sweep of the Panthers having secured 19-4 and 21-1 wins at home on April 30 and May 3, respectively.
Game 1: NCC 13, BMCC 3 (5 innings)
- Zaim Deljanin went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and 1 run.
- Nicholas Pugliese went 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs.
- Marcello Arrigo went 1-for-1 with a three-run home run, 4 RBIs, 2 runs, 2 walks, and a stolen base.
- Winning pitcher Joseph Lynn pitched all five innings, struck out seven batters, and allowed one hit.
Game 2: NCC 11, BMCC 0 (5 innings)
- Arrigo went 2-for-4 with a home run, 1 RBI, and 1 run.
- Ryan Johnston went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs.
- Winning pitcher, Tommy Gorham 5.0 IP, 9 strikeouts, and 1 hit.
Next up
The Lions return to action on Thursday, May 9, when they visit second-seeded Monroe College-Bronx in the first round of the NJCAA Region XV Championship at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx (3 p.m.). The remaining games of the double-elimination tournament will take place at Kingsborough Community College May 10-11.
