Lions Earn Draw on Sophomore Night Against FIT
Date: October 18, 2025
Location: Mitchel Field
Final Score: Nassau CC 1, Fashion Institute of Technology 1

On a night dedicated to honoring two of the program's key leaders, Nassau Community College fought to a 1–1 draw with the Fashion Institute of Technology in a Region XV showdown at Mitchel Field. The game served as a fitting tribute to sophomores Laura Florez (#14) and Sloane Lipton (#7), who were celebrated pregame for their contributions to the program both on and off the field.

Strong Start from the Lions

Nassau took control early, and in the 17th minute, Madison Galette opened the scoring with an unassisted goal — her first of the season — to give the Lions a 1–0 lead. Galette led the charge offensively with seven shots and four on frame, consistently pushing the pace through midfield.

The Lions kept the pressure on through the rest of the half, out shooting FIT 5–2 before the break.

Second-Half Fight and FIT Equalizer

The second half saw continued attacking efforts from Nassau, including Antoinette Flaherty's five shots and creative play from the midfield. Sloane Lipton, honored earlier in the night, was active in distributing the ball and helping maintain tempo throughout the match.

Despite Nassau's strong showing, FIT equalized in the 79th minute through Rita Gonçalves, assisted by Abby Rufino and Antonia Renzi. The Lions pressed late for a go-ahead goal but ultimately had to settle for a draw.

Defensive Strength and Goalkeeping

Goalkeeper Heidi Castaneda made four key saves and remained composed in goal throughout the 90 minutes. Nassau's back line, led by Kelly Garay and Valentina Garcia, helped limit FIT to just five shots on goal.
