The Nassau Community College men's basketball team defended its home court Wednesday night, defeating Kingsborough Community College 65–56 at the Physical Education Complex. The Lions improved to 2–5 overall (2–3 Region XV) behind a balanced offensive effort and a relentless defensive performance that forced 23 turnovers.
How It Happened
Nassau came out energized, jumping to a 6–0 lead behind early threes and transition baskets from Glen McBeth Jr. and Camren Welker. The Lions' pressure defense caused multiple early turnovers and set the tone for a dominant first half in which Nassau held Kingsborough to just 25 percent shooting from the field.
By halftime, Nassau led 38–25 thanks to efficient guard play and second-chance opportunities on the glass. McBeth Jr. scored nine of his 14 points in the opening frame, while forward Isaiah Blunt added nine points and strong interior defense off the bench. Anthony Harrison helped control the boards with 10 rebounds and six points in the half.
Kingsborough attempted to close the gap after the break, cutting the deficit to single digits midway through the second half. The Wave leaned on Wayne Best (12 points) and Rushaun Walker (10 points, 8 rebounds), but Nassau's defensive rotations and late-game poise kept the visitors from getting closer than eight.
Welker led a key second-half stretch with back-to-back layups and a steal-to-score sequence that extended the Lions' lead to 56–35 with just under 14 minutes to go. From there, Nassau's depth and composure sealed the victory despite a late push from Kingsborough.
