In just its second year of competition, the Nassau Community College men's volleyball team made school history by finishing as the NJCAA National Championship Runner-Up. This incredible achievement showcases the resilience and talent of the young program, who ended the 2024 inaugural season in the consolation round of the invitational. Last year, the Lions went 11-17 overall and 6-2 in Region XV conference play.
This season, Nassau improved to 26-4 overall, and 8-0 in Region XV, winning the Region XV Championship after defeating Borough of Manhattan Community College. Freshman
Suhaib Amar was named the Region XV Player of the Year and ended the season atop the NJCAA leaderboard with 3.91 kills per set and 356 total kills. Nassau Community College led the nation in total service aces with 254 (2.40 per set). Nassau also garnered other conference awards with
Hunter Dunn and
Dom Cieleski named Co-Setters of the Year, and
Nick O'Malley Coach of the Year.
At the NJCAA invitational, #2 Nassau Community College suffered a tough first-round upset by #7 Northampton. The Lions bounced back to win five consecutive elimination games in just 36 hours, defeating the following teams along the way: #8 Monroe University Bronx, #3 Monroe University, #5 Bryant & Stratton (WI), #4 Finger Lakes Community College, #6 Union County College. Nassau's run then came to an end in the championship game in a 3-1 loss to #1 College of DuPage. This run not only highlights the team's endurance and determination, but the leadership of head coach
Nick O'Malley, whose lineup adjustments and tactical decisions proved pivotal throughout the tournament.
