Result
The #3 Nassau Community College upset #2 Monroe Express in the first round of the Region XV playoffs on Thursday afternoon. The Lions dropped three games to the Express earlier this year, but were able to come out on top in the postseason.
How it Happened
- Nassau got on the scoreboard early with six runs in the top of the first inning off of four hits. Sean Richards reached on a fielders choice before Michael Jazylo doubled and Carmine Scardina walked to load the bases. Daniel Reynolds hit an RBI single through the left side to score Richards, followed by a two RBI single off the bat of Joseph Lynn. Chris Stumpf then hit an RBI single to center field, and an error allowed another run to score on the play, before Caiden Siegel hit a sacrifice fly for the sixth run of the inning.
- Monroe plated one run in each of the third, fifth, sixth, and ninth innings, but could not complete the comeback.
Notes
- Michael Jazylo went 2-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. He also earned the win on the mound, pitching 7.2 innings and allowing three runs off five hits, with four walks and three strikeouts.
- Joseph Lynn went 2-4 with three RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base.
- Chris Stumpf earned the save, allowing one run in 1.1 innings pitched.
