Lions Hold Off Hostos

Nassau Community College earned a hard-fought 78–70 victory over Hostos Community College on Wednesday night, improving to 9-10 overall and 9-6 in Region XV play. The Lions used timely shooting and composure down the stretch to secure the conference win. Nassau showed poise in a tightly contested Region XV matchup, answering every Hostos run with timely scoring and strong rebounding. Behind balanced contributions and clutch execution late, the Lions secured an important conference win as they continue their push toward postseason positioning.

How It Happened

The game opened at a fast pace, with both teams trading baskets through the first several minutes. Nassau began to gain momentum midway through the first half behind the shooting of Glen Mcbeth Jr and strong rebounding from Amir Reushell-Sanders. A three-pointer by Mcbeth and a pair of free throws from Evan Pasik helped the Lions stretch the lead, and Nassau closed the half on a late push to take a 38–36 advantage into the break.

The second half featured 12 lead changes as Hostos repeatedly challenged Nassau's lead. Mcbeth continued to connect from the perimeter, while Reushell-Sanders attacked the paint and controlled the glass. With just under six minutes remaining, the score was tied at 60 before Nassau answered with a decisive run. Matthew Abreu knocked down a three, and Reushell-Sanders followed with a strong finish inside to give the Lions breathing room.

Hostos made one final push in the closing minutes, trimming the deficit to four, but Nassau executed efficiently at the free-throw line and came up with key defensive rebounds. A late basket by Douglas Moodie sealed the win as the Lions closed out the final seconds to secure the eight-point victory.
