Nassau Community College baseball broke open a tight game with a massive fourth inning, defeating Dutchess Community College 15-3. The Lions totaled 12 hits and three home runs, using a balanced offensive attack and strong pitching to secure the win.
How It Happened
Dutchess struck first in the top of the first inning, as a solo home run gave the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. Nassau threatened in the bottom half after Daniel Reynolds was hit by a pitch and stole second, but the Lions were unable to capitalize.
Nassau responded in the second inning with a power surge. Zaim Deljanin led off with a home run to tie the game, and Ryan Jazylo followed shortly after with a solo shot to give Nassau a 2-1 lead. The Lions kept the pressure on as Patrick Sebber walked, stole both second and third, and scored on a Reynolds single. Aidan Quinn later reached on an error, bringing home another run and extending the lead to 4-1.
After a scoreless third inning, Dutchess attempted to climb back in during the fourth, stringing together multiple hits to score two runs and cut the deficit to 4–3. However, Nassau responded immediately with one of its most explosive innings of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions erupted for 11 runs. Reynolds worked a leadoff walk and Quinn followed with a single before Caiden Siegel delivered the biggest swing of the game, a three-run home run to break things open.
The rally continued as Ryan Jazylo singled and Eric Sharp doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Abel Liriano drove in a run with a single, and Sebber followed with an RBI groundout. Nassau kept the inning alive with aggressive baserunning and capitalized on defensive miscues, as Quinn reached on an error to bring in another run.
Siegel struck again later in the inning with a two-run double, and Deljanin added a two-run double of his own to cap the scoring. By the time the inning ended, Nassau had turned a one-run game into a commanding 15-3 lead.
Nassau's pitching took over from there. Chris Lonergan settled in after allowing three runs across four innings, and Chris Marano closed the game with a clean fifth inning, striking out two to seal the victory.
