Nassau Community College men's volleyball capped off a perfect conference season with a dominant run to the Region XV Championship, sweeping Kingsborough Community College in the semifinal and Borough of Manhattan Community College in the title match. With the two victories, the Lions finished as the regular season champions, and overall Region XV Champions for the second year in a row.
Dom Cieleski and
Thomas Wildeman were named to the All-Tournament team, with Wildeman being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Currently ranked #2 in the nation, Nassau will move on to the NJCAA Men's Volleyball Championship held at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois on April 23-25.
How It Happened
Championship: Nassau 3, Borough of Manhattan 0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22)
In the championship match, Nassau faced a tougher test against a strong Borough of Manhattan squad, but once again came through in key moments.
The first set was competitive early, with both teams trading points. Nassau pulled away late behind kills from Thomas Wildeman and Dillon Wallace, along with strong blocking at the net, to take the set 25-20.Â
The second set proved to be the turning point of the match. Borough of Manhattan pushed Nassau to the limit, but the Lions responded with clutch play down the stretch. Joseph Woods and Wildeman delivered key kills, and Nassau edged out a tight 26–24 win to take a commanding 2-0 lead.Â
In the third set, Nassau maintained composure as Borough of Manhattan continued to fight. With the score tight late, the Lions relied on balanced offense and disciplined play. Wildeman and Rivera contributed crucial points, while Cieleski controlled the tempo. Nassau closed out the set 25-22 to complete the championship sweep.
