Naim Jones Helps the Lions Run Past Hocking

(Garden City, NY) Last Saturday, Nassau Football went head to head with the Hocking College Hawks at home on Mitchel Field. There were 400 fans crowded in the stands cheering the Lions on to victory.

Within a few minutes of the first quarter, NCC took charge, and marched down the field. Khalil Trotman handed off to Naim Jones who ran it in for the first touchdown of the game! Billy Rousakis kicked for the extra point. Hocking answered by scoring with only 1:45 to go, but missed the extra point, bringing the score 7-6.

Going into the second quarter the Lions were really finding their groove. The rainy and windy afternoon favored the short passing game, and the rushing attack proved to be valuable for the Lions offense.

Naim Jones was back in the action, catching a 37 yard pass from Trotman, good for a second touchdown. With only seconds left before halftime, Jelani Greene caught a short 5 yard pass from Trotman scoring again! The final going into the second half was 21-6.

Both teams came out refreshed and focused, but it was evident that the Lions wanted the win more. Two minutes into the third quarter and Rashad Tucke runs in for a touchdown. Naim Jones and Jeremiah Nelson both caught short passes that were good for touchdowns in the third quarter. The score going into the final stretch of the game was 42-6.

Hocking was able to come back a little bit scoring two touchdowns in the last quarter, but the Lions were too far out of reach. Rashad Tucker and Jude Innocent also made 58+ yard runs to score the Lions last two touchdowns of the game. The final score was 54-20, Nassau!

The Lions offense rushing attack was highlighted by running back Niam Jones. Jones rushed for a total of 84 yards on 10 carries with 3 touchdowns. He also lead the team in receiving yardage with 2 catches for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.

Rashad Tucker also had a standout game finishing 5 receptions, 105 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Jude Innocent finished with 6 receptions, 66 yards, and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Khalil Trotman threw for 126 yards on 13-24 passing attempts, and completed 2 touchdowns.

On defense, Andrew Ciejka lead the way with 10 solo tackles. Jordan Jones was also a standout today making 2 interceptions.

Overall the team rushed for 303 yards, making that a 7 yard per carry average, and 6 touchdowns. The Lions have now scored over 40 points in a single game for three of their five games this year.

NCC hits the road this weekend as they travel to North Carolina to take on Louisburg College.
