(Garden City, NY) The Nassau Baseball Team hosted the Queensborough Tigers at Molloy Field on Wednesday.
NCC kicked off the first inning with a slug to right field by Nicholas DiLorenzo, which set the team up nicely. TJ Toscano took the plate and tallied a 2-2 count before hitting a single and sending DiLorenzo home to score the first run. The Lions went up 1-0.
As the game progressed, Nassau had a difficult time containing the high-powered offense that Queensborough brought. The Lions gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the first, 3 in the bottom of the 2nd, and another 2 in the 3rd. Ryan Torres was on the mound for Queensborough and only surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings. He also managed to strike out 11 batters.
After the first inning, the Lions went scoreless until the 5th inning. They snagged 2 runs, but at that point it was too late to claw their way out. Queensborough went on to score another 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th, and secure the 13-3 win.
Head Coach
Larry Minor commented after the game, "We didn't have our best day today, but you learn something from every match up. We will come back stronger from this, and look forward to taking on Queensborough again over the next few days."
NCC will be back in action on Thursday for the second game in a series of four against Queensborough.
