(Garden City, NY) NCC Women's Basketball hosted their biggest NJCAA rival, the Suffolk Sharks at home on Thursday night. This was the first meeting of the Lions and Sharks in the 2018-2019 season. Going into the game, both teams were tied for 2nd place in the region and Suffolk was standing at 7-1 in conference play.
The Sharks got out hard and started the game with a lot of energy. The lead went back and forth the entire half, finishing with the Lions up by only 1 to go into halftime 31-30.
Defensively, the Lions stepped up and made it difficult for Suffolk to advance the basketball. The Sharks were held to only 15 points, while Nassau scored 39 and captured the victory by a significant lead. The final score was 70-41.
We stopped Head Coach
Brian Kuar after the game, who commented that, "We got off to a bit of a slow start, but going into halftime we challenged the girls to pick up the intensity, and they rose to the challenge. I'm happy that we won against our biggest rival. I could tell before we even left the locker room for warm ups that these girls wanted to win no matter what it took."
Outstanding players of the game were BriAnna Jones who tallied 17 points scored. Bobbi Green finished with 14 and Cherish Francis recorded 11 total.
