(Garden City, NY) Last Saturday, the Women's Basketball team hosted the #5 nationally ranked Brookdale Community College at home. Going into the game the Jersey Blues had a record of 17-1.
The first half was a battle from the beginning. The fight for the lead went back and forth. The Lions managed to get up by 5 in the first quarter, allowing Brookdale to only score 15 points. NCC held them in the second quarter to only 13 to put themselves up 36-28 at half. Nassau came out and didn't let up during the second half. In the third quarter, the Lions extended their lead by scoring 21 points. Brookdale's top player, Haley Delanzo picked up her third foul which changed the dynamic of the game. Emily Pohalski took one for the team and embraced all 3 charges. Nassau pulled away to defeat Brookdale 72-56.
Brianna Jones lead the Lions with 19 points and 4 steals. Cherish Francis and Lindsay McBean both finished with 14 points. Francis also recorded 4 steals.
Diana Lemus came out on top supporting the defense with 14 rebounds.

Brian Kuar commented after the victory, "This was without a doubt the biggest win in the history of our program. The women played really hard and I could see that they wanted to prove themselves against a nationally ranked team. We are very excited about what opportunities post-season play will bring us."
Nassau will be back in action on Tuesday as they hit the road to take on Passaic Community College in New Jersey.
