(Bel Air, MD) The Nassau Lions Lacrosse team kicked off their 2019 season against Harford Community College on Saturday. HCC was ranked 4th, while Nassau was ranked 2nd going into the match up.
The first half started off slowly as the Lions worked their way into a groove. Harford went up early making the score 2-0, but Midfielder Robbie Conners ignited the team with a behind the back shot to give Nassau the spark they needed. The Lions went on a 5 goal run, helping them extend their lead going into half time to 6-5.
The Lions brought the heat in the second half and never gave Harford a chance to lead again. They outscored the Owls 5 to 1. Nassau held Harford to zero in the 4th quarter to secure the first win of the season, 11-6.
Outstanding student-athletes of the game were
Justin Roderka, who had a great finish with 5 points. He scored 4 goals and had 1 assist.
Tanner Germain and Robbie Conners each had 3 goals a piece.
Head Coach
John Savage commented after the game that, "It was a well fought game between two great programs. Harford certainly put up a fight. It was a great match up from both ends of the field today."
Next up for the Lions is Stevenson JV on Sunday in Pikesville, Maryland.
