Nassau Stays At #1 After Defeating Rival Onondaga

Box Score (Syracuse, NY) Today, the Lions took on #5 ranked Onondaga Community College on the road. The rivalry has been heated between the Lions and Lazers for years, and today was no different. In the last match up, Onondaga beat Nassau in the 2018 National Finals.

Nassau went up early finishing the first quarter, 3-2. The Lions really started to take over in the second quarter going up 6-2, before going into halftime. NCC struggled in the 3rd quarter only putting up 1 point, but managed to hold the Lazers to only 1 goal, allowing them to keep their lead, 7-3. Nassau got back into the game plan in the 4th quarter and created key turnovers that the team needed to gain possession and scored 5 points. On the contrary they held Onondaga to only 1, and the Lions walked away with the win 12-4.

Outstanding players of the game were goalies Gunnar Luckoski and Anthony Kennin who combined for 12 saves on the day in the cage. On defense, Brian Schaefer, Adrian Conk, Dylan Guarneri, Taylor Jensen, Scott Sasso, Tyler Butrico and Kali White Jr. had an incredible day holding Onondaga to only 4 goals. The offense was paced by Justin Roderka who had 4 goals and 1 assists and Liam Muldoon had 3 goals and 2 assists. Tom Szalkowski completed 1 goal and 2 assists. Rob Connors tallied 2 goals, while teammate Dan Rooney and Tanner Germain added a goal each. Pat Behrens and Eddie Munoz each added an assist.

Head Coach John Savage commented after the game, "The heated rivalry that has been going on for years continued once again today. Our guys effort was great and I am extremely proud of them. Hats off to Onondaga for a well played match."

The Lions sit 3-1 for the season and are now ranked #1 in the country. Next up is Genesee Community College next Sunday at home.
