Lions Defeat Orange and Dutchess, Rank Third in Region XV

Result

The Nassau Community College women's volleyball team picked up two more Region XV victories on Saturday, defeating Orange County Community College 3-1 and outlasting Dutchess Community College 3-2. The Lions improved to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in Region XV playholding third place in the conference standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

How It Happened

  • Orange Match (3-1): Nassau opened the day strong, taking the first set 25-18 behind efficient hitting from Rhianna Miller and strong serving from Alanice Rios, who notched nine aces. After Orange responded to even the match with a 25-15 second-set win, Nassau tightened its defense and held off late surges in sets three and four, winning both 25-23 to secure the match. Miller's 11 kills led the attack, while Rios added six kills and 12 digs. Setter Jocelyn Teel distributed 21 assists, and Jenna Ramlogan anchored the back row with 16 digs.

  • Dutchess Match (3-2): The Lions rallied from two sets down to complete a thrilling comeback. After dropping the first two frames 25-19 and 25-18, Nassau found its rhythm behind Alexandra Pierre-Saint's blocking and Teel's serving runs to dominate the next two sets 25-15 and 25-15. In the decisive fifth, Nassau raced out to an early lead and never looked back, closing the match 15-5. Pierre-Saint posted 8 kills and a season-high 11 total blocks, while Ramlogan collected 23 digs. Teel contributed 20 assists and 6 aces, and Rios tallied 18 digs. The Lions limited Dutchess to a .075 hitting percentage while recording 14 team blocks.

  • Miller totaled 11 kills in the win over Orange, hitting .417.
  • Rios recorded 9 service aces and 12 digs in the first match, and added 18 digs against Dutchess.
  • Teel combined for 41 assists and 8 aces across both matches,
  • Pierre-Saint finished the day with 13 kills and 11 blocks.
  • Ramlogan totaled 39 digs over the two contests.
