Lions Outlast LaGuardia in Overtime

Nassau Community College earned a hard-fought 73–71 overtime victory over LaGuardia Community College on Tuesday night at the Physical Education Complex, improving to 5–6 overall and 5–4 in Region XV play. Nassau's resilience and defensive intensity proved decisive in a tightly contested conference matchup. The Lions executed when it mattered most, closing the game with strong ball pressure and poise in overtime to secure an important Region XV win as they continue their push up the standings.

How It Happened

The game was tight from the opening tip, with neither team able to create separation in the first half. Nassau held a slim 32–31 lead at the break behind early contributions from Amir Reushell-Sander and Evan Pasik, while LaGuardia stayed close with strong interior play from Djeri Sangare and Charlie Hall.

The second half featured multiple lead changes as both teams traded baskets down the stretch. Nassau used a balanced attack to build a brief advantage midway through the period, but LaGuardia responded with second-chance points and timely jumpers to tie the game at 60–60 in the final minute. Nassau had multiple looks in the closing seconds of regulation, but the contest headed to overtime.

In the extra period, Pasik opened the scoring with a basket inside, and Camren Welker followed with a key layup to keep Nassau in front. LaGuardia answered with jump shots to stay within one possession, but Nassau remained composed. With the score tied at 71–71 in the final seconds, Welker came up with a steal and converted the game-winning layup at the buzzer to seal the victory.
