Nassau Wrestling Finishes Second at NJCAA District Championship; Three Crowned Champions, Nine Advance to Nationals
Nassau Community College men's wrestling delivered an outstanding performance at the NJCAA District Championship, finishing second overall with 90.5 team points.
The Lions placed just behind district champion Niagara County Community College (106 points) and ahead of Onondaga Community College (63.5 points), while Jamestown Community College finished fourth with 18 points.
Nassau crowned three district champions and had multiple wrestlers place in the top three across their respective weight classes, earning key national qualifiers in the process. The Lions demonstrated strength across the lineup and continue to build momentum heading into the NJCAA National Championships.
District Champions Lead the Way
Dobbins set the tone early for the Lions, capturing the 125-pound district title with a composed 4-1 decision over Jaron Barrientos of Niagara County Community College in the championship bout. Controlling the pace and securing timely takedowns, Dobbins earned first place and punched his ticket to nationals.
Ramirez followed with a dominant performance at 133 pounds, overwhelming Vincenzo Falsetti of Niagara County with a 19-4 technical fall in the championship match. His relentless offensive pressure secured the district crown and national qualification.
Albertelli delivered a championship performance in the heavyweight division. He opened with a 12-3 win over Jamestown before defeating Mykola Fabian of Onondaga Community College 5-0 in the finals to claim the district title at 285 pounds.
NJCAA National Qualifiers
In addition to the three champions, six more Lions earned qualification to the NJCAA National Championships with strong performances at districts.
Noah Foster – 184 lbs – Sophomore
Foster qualified at 184 pounds, battling through a competitive bracket to secure his place at nationals.
Peterson earned national qualification at 117 pounds.
Faith Juwana – 103 lbs – Freshman
In her freshman season, Juwana qualified at 103 pounds.
Demosthene secured his spot at nationals at 165 pounds, showcasing resilience and consistency across the tournament.
John Fox – 141 lbs – Freshman
Fox earned national qualification at 141 pounds, marking a strong postseason showing in his first collegiate season.
De La Rosa advanced at 157 pounds to qualify for nationals, adding strength to Nassau's middleweight group.
Ramirez qualified at 145 pounds, contributing to the Lions' balanced national roster.
Valasquez rounded out Nassau's qualifiers at 174 pounds, earning his opportunity to compete on the national stage.
With three district champions and nine national qualifiers, Nassau Wrestling heads into the NJCAA National Championships with strong momentum. The Lions will look to translate their district success into national podium finishes as they compete against the top junior college programs in the country.
