Nassau Community College men's volleyball capped off a perfect Region XV regular season on Saturday, sweeping Monroe University and Kingsborough Community College in straight sets at home. With the pair of victories, the Lions finished undefeated in conference play (10-0) and improved to 16–2 overall, solidifying their dominance heading into postseason play.
How It Happened
Match 1: Nassau 3, Monroe 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16)
Nassau opened the day with a commanding performance against Monroe. The Lions set the tone early in the first set, hitting an impressive .611 attack percentage while limiting Monroe to .000, quickly building separation behind efficient offense from Johncarlo Rivera and Thomas Wildeman.Â
In the second set, Monroe showed more resistance, but Nassau remained in control. Dom Cieleski distributed the offense effectively, and Joseph Woods provided key kills during a mid-set push that helped Nassau maintain the lead. The Lions closed out the set 25-21 with steady serve receive and disciplined play.Â
Nassau sealed the match in the third set with another balanced offensive effort. Rivera, Wildeman, and Tristan Harrison combined for multiple points during a decisive run, while the Lions' defense held Monroe to negative hitting in the frame. Nassau completed the sweep 25-16.Â
Match 2: Nassau 3, Kingsborough 0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-22)
The Lions carried that momentum into the second match against Kingsborough, dominating the opening set 25-9. Nassau overwhelmed Kingsborough with aggressive serving and efficient attacking, forcing errors and controlling tempo from the outset.Â
The second set saw Kingsborough respond with improved play, but Nassau continued to rely on its core. Brandon Barrios and Rivera powered the offense, while Cieleski kept the attack balanced. A mid-set surge helped Nassau pull away for a 25-20 win.
In the third set, Kingsborough stayed competitive, but Nassau's composure proved decisive. Woods and Barrios delivered key late points, and the Lions closed the match 25–22 to complete the second sweep of the day.
