Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Moves to 6-0 in Region XV

Nassau Community College men's volleyball continued its strong season on Saturday, earning two straight-set victories over Hostos Community College and Borough of Manhattan Community College at Nassau. The Lions dominated both matches, improving to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play with the pair of wins. Nassau showcased depth, strong serving, and efficient offensive execution across both matches. The Lions controlled the tempo against Hostos before handling a tougher challenge from BMCC later in the day. With balanced contributions across the lineup and continued dominance in conference play, Nassau extended its winning streak and reinforced its position among the top teams in the region.

How It Happened

Match 1: Nassau 3, Hostos 0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-19)

Nassau established control immediately in the opening set against Hostos. After the teams traded the first few points, the Lions went on a dominant run sparked by strong serving from Joseph Woods and Aitor Nunez. Woods recorded back-to-back service aces during an 8–1 Nassau stretch that pushed the lead into double digits, while Daniel Duran delivered several early kills off assists from Dom Cieleski. Nunez later added three consecutive service aces, helping Nassau extend the advantage to 17-5 before closing the set comfortably.

The second set featured another fast Nassau start. Augusta Na orchestrated the offense effectively, setting up early kills from Woods and Duran to open a 5-2 lead. Nunez again made his impact from the service line with a three-ace run that expanded the margin to 14-5. Brandon Barrios and Joseph Woods continued the offensive pressure as Nassau steadily pulled away and secured the set 25-14.

Hostos kept the third set closer early, but Nassau maintained control behind balanced attacking. Dillon Wallace and Hassan Mehdi contributed key points in the middle stages, while Barrios added a service ace during a mid-set push. Duran continued to produce on the outside and Nunez delivered the final kill to seal the straight-sets victory.

Match 2: Nassau 3, BMCC 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19)

The Lions faced a more competitive challenge in the afternoon match against BMCC. Nassau jumped ahead early in the first set behind a service ace from Dom Cieleski and an early kill from Dillon Wallace. Joseph Woods and Brandon Barrios added points as the Lions built a small cushion, but BMCC battled back to keep the set tight. Late kills from Thomas Wildeman and Woods helped Nassau regain separation, and a final BMCC attack error gave the Lions a 25-22 opening set win.

Nassau created more breathing room in the second set. Johncarlo Rivera sparked momentum with a service ace and a kill, while Barrios and Wildeman combined for several offensive points during a mid-set surge. Woods continued to anchor the offense with multiple kills from Cieleski's sets, allowing Nassau to maintain control and take the set 25-18.

The third set featured strong execution from the Lions' core players. Woods provided a major spark with a pair of service aces and several key kills during an extended Nassau run. Rivera and Barrios added important points at the net, while Wildeman continued to produce from the outside.
