Box Score (Garden City, NY) Tonight #4 ranked Women's Basketball hosted the #1 team in the country, Hostos CC. Over the last 2 seasons, Nassau has been 0-6 against the Caimans. In 2017, they lost to them in the Semifinals, and last year Hostos beat the Lions in the Region XV National Championship game, 79-67. Needless to say, Nassau was ready to finally even out the score.

It was a close first quarter with both teams neck and neck. Nassau came out on top leading by 3. The Lions continued to pressure on defense and play smart on offense. By halftime the score was 39-21, Nassau. In the third quarter, NCC pulled away even further spreading the score to 62-38. Nassau played until the last minute to ensure they secured their victory, 71-54.

Standout players of the game were Alexis Aponte, who had a tally of 21 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Teammate Giavanna Faison racked up 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Abby Babatunde had 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Roesha Samuels totaled 10 points and 4 steals.

Head Coach Brian Kuar commented after the game, "We are thrilled with the win tonight. This game has showed a shift in our culture because the women have proven to themselves that they can compete at the next level. This game puts a stamp on letting every other team we compete against know that we are here and we mean business. It feels good to set the tone and beat Hostos in the first game we see them this season. Now onto the next."

This win marks the 10th straight win this season and leaves Nassau undefeated.

The Lions will be back in action on Thursday as they hit the road to face Monroe College-Bronx.
