Box Score (Garden City, NY) The Nassau Women's Softball Team kicked off their 2018 season
on Tuesday with a double header against Dutchess Community College.
NCC started off strong. Pitcher
Geena Fornataro hit strike after strike to keep the score 0-0 until the 3rd inning.
Sildrany Lopez had 4 singles to help get the Lions on base.
Penelope Sanchez stepped up and also hit a single at the bottom of the inning. Lopez followed with a nicely executed bunt to advance Sanchez to second. Next up was,
Alicja Zaborowska who hit a line drive between first and second allowing Sanchez to score and put the Lions up 1-0. But that wasn't all.
Courtney Ludewig came in to hit a double pushing Zaborowska home scoring their second run of the evening.
Fornataro continued her hot streak of striking out the Falcons. Back to the top of the order of batters in the bottom of the 6th inning, Lopez and Sanchez both hit singles to get them on. A wild pitch flew by Zaborowska which allowed Lopez to steal 3rd. Unfortunately, Sanchez got an out trying to steal for 2nd base, leaving just Lopez alive. Zaborowska hit an infield single sending the pitcher, Fornataro, up to bat with runners on 1st and 3rd. After a few pitches, Fornataro sent the ball soaring and captured the first home run of the season. She sealed the win for the Lions 6-0.
NCC held the Falcons to 0 hits and 0 runs. Pitcher
Geena Fornataro struck out 20 batters, which counted for 20 of 21 outs. The Lions celebrated quickly as they prepared for the second game of the night.
