Nassau Community College Hosts Annual Fun Run to Support Pediatric Heart Health
On May 8, 2025, the Nassau Community College campus came alive with energy, unity, and purpose during the Annual Fun Run fundraiser. For over 25 years, this cherished event planned and carried out by Susan Mitchell has brought together students, faculty, and staff in support of the Carleigh Mac Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing the early diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects in children.
This year's Fun Run raised over $3,100 for the cause. Participants walked the scenic campus route, accompanied by an extraordinary group of student athletes from the football, track, lacrosse, volleyball, and soccer teams. These athletes are at the heart of the event's success, playing key roles in the planning, promotion, and day-of operations. Their months of preparation—including designing custom t-shirts and towels—add a special touch that brings the entire campus community together.
Co-sponsored by FSA, the Fun Run continues to grow in impact and meaning each year.
The Carleigh Mac Foundation was established in memory of Carleigh Mac, who passed away 16 years ago. Since then, the foundation has raised over $2 million, providing cutting-edge pediatric cardiology equipment to North Shore LIJ Hospital. Thanks to this support, doctors are now able to diagnose heart defects in utero and at birth, giving children a stronger chance at life from their very first moments.
Through this foundation, Carleigh's legacy lives on. Every dollar raised and every step taken at the Fun Run helps deepen the impact of her life, bringing hope and healing to families in need.
Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Fun Run. Together, we are making a difference—one heartbeat at a time.
